A place where nature transforms before your eyes. This is Pedra Azul State Park, located in the heart of the mountain region of Espírito Santo, in the municipality of Domingos Martins. Framed by green valleys, forest-covered mountains, and granite and gneiss rock formations, the park is home to one of the most beautiful postcard landscapes of the state: the iconic Pedra Azul. Standing at 1,822 meters above sea level, the rock formation changes color throughout the day due to the action of lichens and sunlight. As a result, the rock can appear blue, pink, or golden — a natural spectacle that looks like a work of art.
While walking along the park’s trails, each step reveals new surprises: orchids on the slopes, the sound of bellbirds echoing through the forest, natural pools carved into the rock, and viewpoints with breathtaking scenery. The setting is ideal for those seeking deep contact with nature, whether hiking through forest and mountain trails, observing wildlife, bathing in crystal-clear waters, or challenging themselves with rock climbing to the summit.
With welcoming infrastructure and visitor management to ensure a peaceful and safe experience, the park is perfect for an unforgettable day with family, friends, or even on your own. It is also a prime destination for rock climbing enthusiasts. Anyone who visits the park leaves with memories and sensations that remain long after the journey ends.
When to visit
Pedra Azul State Park can be visited year-round, but the experience varies depending on the season. During winter (June to September), the weather is drier and temperatures are milder, with clear skies ideal for hiking, photography, and enjoying the viewpoints. In summer (December to March), vegetation becomes lush, waterfalls gain volume, and the natural pools become irresistible. However, trails may close during periods of heavy rain.
How to get there
From Vitória, the capital of Espírito Santo, follow BR-262 toward Venda Nova do Imigrante until reaching the entrance to the Lagarto Route, which leads to the park. The trip is approximately 110 km, with good signage and paved roads all the way to the entrance.

Access to the trails is permitted until 2:30 p.m. | There is a daily limit of 150 visitors.

Climbing with a cinematic landscape
Climbing to the summit of Pedra Azul is considered one of the most scenic climbs in Brazil. On clear days, it is possible to see the sea on the horizon, even though the park is located about 90 km from the coast. The view encompasses part of the coastline of Espírito Santo and the outlines of the Serra do Mar.

Color changes with the seasons
In addition to changing color throughout the day, Pedra Azul also displays different tones depending on the season. During autumn and winter (March to August), lichens dry due to the cold and dry air, emphasizing more opaque and bluish tones. In spring and summer (September to February), with higher humidity, the coloration may vary from green to orange.

The lizard is a regional icon
On the main rock face of Pedra Azul, some rock formations resemble animals. The most iconic is the Pedra do Lagarto (Lizard Rock), which has become a symbol of the region, appearing in the logos of local businesses, product labels, handicrafts, and even in the visual identity of cultural events. This symbolic presence also extends to the charming Lagarto Route, a scenic rural road surrounded by cafés, charming inns, art studios, and organic farms, offering a complete tourist experience that brings together nature, culture, and gastronomy.
Partial Circuit
The trail provides access to the base of Pedra Azul and to the Lagarto and Forno Grande viewpoints. The estimated walking time is 40 to 60 minutes.
Full Circuit
With a total distance of approximately 3.5 Km, this trail provides access to all viewpoints and the natural pools.
Natural Pools
To reach the natural pools, visitors must climb a steep rock slope of about 90 meters. The effort is rewarded with rock cavities shaped by the action of water.
Climbing to the summit of Pedra Azul
Reaching the top of the iconic Pedra Azul requires being accompanied by an experienced mountaineering and climbing guide, as well as having all required safety equipment. Access is permitted between 6 AM and 8 AM, with prior reservation through the official website. There is a limit of 21 visitors per day.
